How to Fix “USB Device Not Recognized” Error

Nowadays, USB devices have brought great convenience to us when we store and transfer data, so almost each person has a USB flash drive in hand. However, as more and more USB devices appear, the existing problems are also becoming more and more. For instance, many people have encountered such a problem: when plug in a USB flash drive, an error USB Device Not Recognized occurred. There are quite a few reasons for this problem, including software and hardware. Now, let’s discuss how to fix such error.

Method 1:

  1. Plug the USB device into a computer port, click Start menu, then click Run command, type “devmgmt.msc” command in the blank, then click OK button. Or you can right click My Computer icon on the desktop, choose the "Properties" command on the poped up shortcut menu. On the System Properties interface, choose the Hardware option, then click the Device Manager button in the below.
  2. Open the Device Manager, click ViewShow hiden devices in the menu bar. Double click the Universal Serial Bus controllers, right click the grey projects and the USB mass storage device and click Uninstall.
  3. Right click the Universal Serial Bus controllers, choose Scan for hardware changes in the poped up drop down menu.
  4. Then restart your computer and check whether it is solved.
  5. If the problem persists, right click the “USB Root Hub” under the Universal Serial Bus controllers, then click Properties.
  6. Click the Power Management tab in the opened Properties Window, and click to clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, then click the OK button. You have to repeat this action with all USB Root hubs available.

 

Method 2:

  1. Click Start menu, then click Run, type “regedit” in the blank and then click the OK button.
  2. In the opened registry editor window, expand the following branches accordingly in the left regestry tree window: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  3. Delete the UpperFilters key assignments in the right window.

 

The above are two methods for you to fix the USB Device Not Recognized error, the following will analyze some hardware reasons:

  1. BIOS disabled the USB devices. You can go to the BIOS, and change the “Enable USB Device” to “Enable”.
  2. The front USB line is connected incorrectly. You can try the back USB ports.
  3. The electric tension of the USB port is not enough. Change another USB port to try again.
  4. Compatibility issues between motherboard and system. You can try to refresh the BIOS.
  5. Your USB device itself has been damaged. You can test the USB device on another computer to find out whether it has damaged or not.
  6. If your problem still remain unsolved after trying all the methods above, you can go to the official site of the device manufacturer to download and install the latest driver

Notice: Remember that do not pull it out when the USB is reading/writing, or you may be burned your USB device!
